Program Description:

The Trauma Center is staffed by board-certified surgeons with advanced trauma life support certification, at least one of whom is available in the hospital 24 hours a day. There is also 24-hour in-house attending support in Anesthesia and Obstetrics.

The Center is an American College of Surgeons-verified, state-designated, Level I Trauma Center capable of meeting the needs of both adult and pediatric trauma. It is supported by a 17-bed surgical ICU and five-bed pediatric ICU. Twenty-four-hour helicopter/helipad service is available.

Over 1,200 trauma patients are treated each year by a dedicated team of trauma surgeons, with the participation of the entire medical staff of UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The patients receive state-of-the-art medical treatment, with attention to the complete medical, social and psychologic needs associated with their trauma, from admission through rehabilitation.
