Program Description:

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program evaluates and treats patients suspected of or diagnosed with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis with state-of-the-art conventional, as well as new treatments. This program sees both adults and children, and closely coordinates all aspects of care, including the most recent medical therapy, nutritional, psychological and other support, and any necessary surgery. Special expertise is offered for the hard-to-manage patient. The program participates extensively in clinical trials of new agents and is the only center in New Jersey to offer a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach to these complex problems.

The program is also interested in undiagnosed patients with chronic diarrhea. Novel serologic diagnostic tests to separate inflammatory bowel disease from other forms of diarrhea are available only through this program.

The Center also includes the Basic Research Laboratory funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and by state and industrial support. The laboratory is dedicated to fundamental research focusing on the cause of colitis and Crohn's disease and the development of novel treatment strategies.
