Program Description

The Addiction Medicine Service provides the evaluation and management of medical aspects of addictions to tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. Services include abstinence-oriented management for the alcohol-dependent patient, controlled-drinking strategies for problem alcohol users, benzodiazepine-tapering and withdrawal, nicotine dependence treatment and management of prescription and illicit drug abuse.

Referral, when appropriate, is provided for counseling and rehabilitation services. Patients are managed jointly with referring physicians.
