Program Description:

Comprehensive Family Medicine provides personalized, comprehensive, individual and family-centered health care. Available 24 hours a day, the physicians place emphasis on screening, prevention and cost-effective, longitudinal care.

The faculty also offer primary case management and medical liaison services. The staff has particular expertise in the management of patients in complex systems of care and provides patient and family advocacy, including the appropriate use of consultants and community resources.

Services provided that some may not recognize as part of Comprehensive Family Medicine include: colposcopy, sigmoidoscopy, geriatric and general hospital consultation, and workers compensation assessment and management.

Special Services:

  • Acupuncture
  • Alternative Medicine:
    Including acupuncture, hypnosis and therapeutic massage
  • Family Centered Maternal Care
  • Geriatric Medicine:
    Comprehensive geriatric assessment, ongoing management of acute and chronic medical needs, liaison with social services, hospital consultation service, nursing home care, home visit program
  • Hospital Care:
    Diagnosis and Treatment of patients at Saint Peter's University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital ( including geriatric consultation, surgical clearance, consultation post-surgery, co-management of patients ) and in the emergency rooms of those institutions
  • Individual and Family Counseling:
    Premarital and marital counseling, individual supportive counseling, psychosocial approach to medical management
  • Medical Liaison, Patient Education, Information and Referral Services
  • Minor Surgery:
    Outpatient surgery ( including suturing, biopsies and treatment of dermatological problems requiring cryosurgery and other up-to-date techniques )
  • Occupational Medicine:
    Annual physical exams, executive physicals, screening programs (including substance abuse), occupational exposure exams, Department of Transportation physicals, workers compensation exams ( including injury assessment and management )
  • Preventive Medicine and Health / Wellness Promotion:
    Complete physical exams, screening ( including health risk appraisal, Pap smears, sigmoidoscopy ), immunizations, injections for allergy desensitization, dietary assessment and nutrition counseling
  • Primary Health Care for Infants, Children, Adolescents and Adults:
    Office provision of history, physical examination, laboratory testing, diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury with ongoing care of complex illnesses using state-of-the-art technology ( including electrocardiography, Holter monitoring, sigmoidoscopy, colposcopy )
  • Sports Medicine:
    Addressing the total needs of the athlete ( from the professional to the weekend overextender ), management of soft tissue injuries, evaluation of the effects of strenuous exercise on the musculoskeletal system and other organ systems, hormone levels
  • Student and School Health:
    Pre-participation exams, on-site school screening, child study medical evaluations, immunization status review and updating
  • Urgent and Emergent Care:
    Call-ahead urgent care services ( including suturing of lacerations, management of uncomplicated fractures and insect bites, diagnosis and treatment of various other semi-emergency conditions )
  • Women's health:
    Comprehensive care for women, including preventive care, obstetrics, Pap smears, colposcopy, maternity care ( i.e., prenatal care and delivery ), supportive counseling, advice and advocacy
