Department of Pediatrics
Division of Pediatric Endocrinology
The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School provides expert diagnostic and therapeutic care to children and adolescents with common and rare endocrine disorders. These disorders comprise a wide range of conditions, including (but not limited to) diabetes mellitus, and disorders of physical growth, sexual maturation, thyroid function, pituitary function, and calcium and phosphorous metabolism.
Our C.O.R.E. Focus
The division provides comprehensive care to children with a variety of endocrine conditions, as noted above. Recognizing that effective communication is crucial to patient care, we use the Auracom International Interpreting Service and provide patient education materials that are written in English and Spanish.
Outreach (Community Outreach)
We provide multidisciplinary support to meet the unique needs of our diabetes patients, their families and all their caregivers, including teachers, school nurses and coaches. We offer individual and group classes to ensure comprehensive education and self-management skills.
Our physicians represent The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital as pediatric endocrine consultants for the State of New Jersey Endocrine Consultants Task Force in the area of newborn screening for congenital adrenal hyperplasia and thyroid disorders.
Our faculty members are actively involved in research, including the TrialNet study, which screens relatives of patients with type 1 diabetes for the antibodies associated with a higher risk of developing type 1 diabetes. Autoantibodies are a sign that the immune system may be attacking the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.
Our faculty members are dedicated to medical student and resident education. Faculty members serve as preceptors for clinical clerkships (medical students) and block rotations (residents), lecturers, group facilitators for case discussions, and mentors.
