About the department
The Department of Environmental and Occupational Medicine offers clinical diagnostic, preventive and consultative services for patients with known or suspected exposure to hazardous chemical, physical and biologic agents in the home, community and/or workplace environment.
The Environmental and Occupational Health Clinical Center, located in the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI) Building adjacent to the medical school on the Busch Campus, offers a full range of clinical and preventive services to referred patients, and provides contractual services for employees in the public and private sector.
Employers can refer patients for the evaluation of work-related exposures and conditions, complete medical surveillance and Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examinations.
Physicians can refer patients for whom environmental or occupational exposures are possible contributors to disease.
Special services include fitness-for-duty evaluations involving questions about whether psychiatric and/or non-psychiatric medical conditions will restrict the ability of a person to perform his/her job. These evaluations include neuropsychological and standardized psychiatric evaluation tools.
