Program Description:

The Pediatric Nephrology Center provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for children, adolescents and teenagers with fluid, electrolyte and acid-base problems, and disorders of the kidney/urinary tract, such as nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, urinary tract infections, renal cystic disease, hematuria, proteinuria, acute and chronic renal failure, nephrolithiasis and hypertension. Up-to-date laboratory and radiologic techniques are used for evaluation. When appropriate, care and evaluation are coordinated with Pediatric Surgical Specialists, including Pediatric Urology, who can provide up-to-date procedures, including lithotripsy. Dietary evaluation and counseling are provided at regular outpatient visits when possible.

The primary care physician is kept updated with regard to the patient's status, test results, etc. When appropriate, contact is made with the schools and/or local social service agencies. Dialysis and transplantation are available for the treatment of kidney failure.

  • Intravenous infusions arranged on an outpatient basis
