Program Description:

Pediatric patients suffering from diseases and/or treatments potentially harmful to the central nervous system, such as brain tumors and radiation treatment, are evaluated for a variety of functional deficits. A battery of tests is administered periodically, which assesses verbal and spatial memory, language fluency, word finding, vocabulary and comprehension, perceptual-motor ability, sequential analysis, symbolic processing, emotional expressions, as well as achievement levels in reading, spelling and arithmetic. Parental questionnaires are included to provide information about the child's "behavioral style."

The testing schedule and battery of assessments are designed to detect changes over time in specific cognitive functions which could aid in formulating educational plans and rehabilitative efforts, as well as providing feedback to physicians about the impact of therapeutic interventions.
