Program Description:

Physicians in the Infectious Disease Consultation Program see any patient referred with a diagnostic or therapeutic problem thought to be infectious in origin, such as occult fevers, osteomyelitis, respiratory infections, severe cellulitis, mononucleosis syndromes, chronic viral infections including hepatitis B and hepatitis C, intestinal infections, pneumonia, tropical infections, infections associated with animal and insect exposure, and HIV infections.

The staff has particular expertise with unusual syndromes accompanied by fever that present diagnostic problems.

Special Services:

  • Care of complex infections of the bone (osteomyelitis), skin (cellulitis), brain (encephalitis), liver (hepatitis), and heart (endocarditis)
  • Care of unusual and severe infections caused by mycobacteria, fungi, viruses, rickettsia, parasites
